Northwoods pints
Price County and the woods north of Wausau were never the center of the old Geek beat. That’s the hole this revival fills.
What the archive already covers up here
The old run was mostly Madison, Milwaukee and the big Wisconsin names. The nearest recurring Wisconsin craft thread in it is Central Waters in Amherst, with Milwaukee names like Horny Goat and Big Bay alongside it. Tyranena shows up in the Oktoberfest run. None of it is northwoods coverage, and this page does not pretend otherwise — we are not going to invent a Phillips brewery list to fill the space.
Drinking in Price County
Treat these as places, not a tap list. Tap lists rot in a week, and we would rather send you somewhere real than publish a lineup that is wrong by the weekend:
- Borrachos Bar — the reason this revival has a northwoods desk at all.
- Ripsaw Saloon, Prentice — a separate stop south of the park, not a walk from it.
- Phillips itself, minutes from the Concrete Park, for the usual small-town taverns and diners.
A Concrete Park afternoon and a pint
Pair this with the park page over at Preservation Services: how to visit Wisconsin Concrete Park and a suggested Phillips day. Park in daylight, town after.
Send a note from up here
Notes from Prentice, Phillips, Park Falls and Ladysmith are welcome — the point of this page is that the northwoods was missing. New tasting notes are added as they are written, not backdated and not invented.
